10/10/2009 Babymoon #2 - 10.9-10.09Matthew and I celebrated our second babymoon this weekend with a trip to The Clark House just outside of Coeur d'Alene, ID on Hayden Lake. The house has an amazing history, built in 1910, and was patterned from Kaiser Wilhelm II's summer palace outside of Berlin. For the decade of the 10s, the home employed no fewer than 160 to take care of inside and outside of the home (including a live-in doctor paid $1000 per month). The original owners sadly lost their fortune and died early but the home is now on the National Historical Registry and has been run as a bed and breakfast since the early 1990s. We stayed in the master's suite which shared its own hallway with only the bedroom of the original mistress of the home; eight other bedrooms are available for guest use. The house is 15,000 square feet and we likely saw about 6-7,000 of them. The grounds overlook Hayden Lake and we were treated to beautiful views on a cold autumn weekend. We enjoyed spectacular food (the 6-course dinner had us rolling), great service, and a huge home about all to ourselves as this wasn't their busy season. It would be a great place to come back to as a couple or for a family Christmas dinner. Pictures of our stay are here. Comments (2)
