11/24/2009 Ava Lynn ArrivesIn a familiar way Jen started to feel the pangs of labor on Tuesday night. Just over two years ago Jen had similar warnings throughout the day and into the evening. Again this time, we went to bed reasonably sure that we would probably not make it through the night in bed. Around 2 in the morning Jen began having contractions that were 8-10 minutes apart. At that point I got out of bed and made sure everything was in order so we could leave quickly. Around 3:30 our neighbor Nancy graciously came over to our house so that Ellie could continue to sleep. We arrived at the hospital around 4:30 and things progressed well until Jen delivered Ava Lynn naturally at 8:39a.m. We chose to go to the hospital earlier this time because we barely made it in time with Ellie Anne. Jen’s mom Patty joined us around 5:30 and my mom came just after 8:00 a.m. The entire process was much more relaxed due to the fact that we had a better idea of what to expect. There was even laughter during the labor process as we anxiously awaited Ava’s arrival. I for one was a little impatient, saying “Jen, that last contraction was 5 minutes apart!...we’re going backwards!” J The last hour and a half was very difficult for Jen as she had what is called back labor. However, despite this she was able to have Ava without any pain medication at all. Jen amazed me with her strength and resolve with both Ellie and Ava. Many women put forth a façade of strength—my wife demonstrates her strength and faith in the Lord daily and in her complete dependence upon Him throughout the delivery process. The doctor upon greeting us the next morning told Jen that she was an inspiration to some of the other nurses and that she delivered Ava with rare “grace and style.” Now that is my wife! Stylish even through the birth of our second daughter! Praise God. I can only sit in amazement as I reflect at the grace in my life. Two vibrant, healthy girls—and a talented, beautiful, woman of God with whom I can partner to raise them. We are blessed indeed. Thank you, Jesus. Comments (2)
